I know it's a beautiful building and will serve the school well. New lives will begin as they pass through those doors, just the same as we once found ours. But, I still feel a tinge of nostalgia as I imagine the home of my youth, Main Barracks, standing in the same place.
There, in the space of that picture, remains the shadow of a well-worn set of granite steps, the treads of which supported generations of cadets who were reporting to the day at reveille, going to mess formations for family meals in the semi-basement of the north end or honoring the flag at dusk.
Within those walls a doctor and nurse took care of the ill in the infirmary and a single adult served as an almost unnecessary headmaster while maturing young men, from thirteen to early twenty's, responsibly managed themselves.
